County writes off $20k
Jay County Commissioners
Jay County Commissioners wrote off more than $20,000 owed to Jay Emergency Medical Service but explored some options to help improve collection rates.
Marla Gibbs from JEMS presented the commissioners with $20,450.60 in uncollectible bills. The commissioners decided to write off the amount.
Gibbs also asked the commissioners about starting a program to offer a discount to people who pay in cash in order to bring in additional collections.
The commissioners said they would speak with their attorney about that option.
On a third matter of business, Gibbs mentioned that JEMS is having a difficult time collecting on billing for worker’s compensation runs and asked about contacting a collection agency to help with those runs.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Were told by Jay County Clerk Ellen Coats that she thinks the county isn’t getting all of the owed court costs in probation cases.
The commissioners later talked with probation officer Ron May, who said that his office checks to make sure people on probation pay their court costs and probation fees before being released.
The commissioners said they will sit down with both Coats and May at their next meeting to discuss the issue.
•Made Jay County Sheriff Ray Newton purchasing agent to buy an in-car camera from Digital-Ally for $4,325.
•Received a grant reimbursement of $5,779.60 for training equipment purchases at the Jay County Jail and received a bill of $452.08 for repairs to the tornado siren on top of the Jay County Courthouse from Jay County Emergency Management Agency director Ralph Frazee.[[In-content Ad]]
