Couple praises airport hospitality (06/19/07)
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Greetings. My husband and I were recently "stranded" in your town due to weather. We landed at Portland Airport to avoid heavy thunderstorms in Michigan, Ohio and northern Indiana. It was such a small place, we weren't expecting a lot.
What a pleasant surprise. Your wonderful little airport had more than we imagined. How wonderful that we were able to check the weather on the computer, gas up, and have an attendant to help in case we needed more.
The icing on the cake was the courtesy car. What a blessing. We may have had a rougher trip if not for all the hospitality shown by the attendant and your town. It also made for a much safer flight as we were able to make better decisions based on the amenities offered.
The attendant graciously stayed after his quitting time. All of this happened on a Sunday afternoon (June 3). We spent the night at the Super 8 motel and we were able to leave early the next day. We made it home safely.
Again, thank you so much.

RMH reunion
To the editor:
This year, the Ronald McDonald House in Indianapolis is celebrating its 25th year anniversary. They are asking that the communities around the state have a RMH reunion for anyone that has used the facility in the past.
I am planning an event Saturday, July 14 in Pennville. That will be the last day of the Pennville fair and there will be a parade. I thought this might be a good way to get people together for this RMH reunion.
At the present time, RMH are assisting me in trying to get this started. I would like to have help in putting this together.
We will have containers for pop tabs at the Pennville and Jay County fairs.
I hope to go to Indianapolis July 27 for the annual pop tab drop-off. Last year, the RMH goal was six million tabs.
The weather was not very cooperative, but they received nine million. The goal this year is eight million. They are also hoping that this fall they will go over the one billion count.
There is more to do in regards to this reunion, so I am asking for anyone interested to contact me either by phone or letter. I would like to have a float in the parade. I need help along that line also.
If your community is already planning something, let me know and perhaps we can coordinate our efforts. Thank you one and all.
