Couple: Thanks for help with car show (08/25/06)

Letters to the Editor

(Editor's note: The following two letters are written by Linda and Duane Harter, organizers of the Hollow Block Cruise-In).

To the editor:

I would like to thank everyone who helped at the show this year to raise $1831.65 for Madison Maple of Albany who was injured while playing baseball with her brother's friends.

I would also want to thank my husband Duane for all his hard work that it takes putting the show together.

Our son had a dream of putting a car show on in Portland named after the old Hollow Block swimming pond which was supposed to have had a monster.

Although our son could not help after the first show, my husband was determined to keep the show and fulfill the dream.

If you were able to attend the show this year, I think that you would agree that my husband had determination to make this one of the best shows we have had.

I am praising my husband because I know the countless hours and miles he goes to make this show possible, and I also know the enjoyment he gets doing the show and the joy he has when he has helped someone.

Home run

To the editor:

First thing that has to take place in a baseball game is to select the players and position them in place, just as Madison Maple, her brothers, and friends were doing.

Many times they had played the game, but this time the batter, not knowing that Madison was not in her position, swung the bat back and Madison took the full blunt of the bat across her forehead.

Madison was taken to the Riley Hospital for Children where she went throught a four-hour surgery to put in three steel plates and 150 stiches to repair her injury.

The HollowBlock Monster Cruisers show is for fun, but was serious when putting a game together for the 5th annual benefit show to benefit Madison and her family.

It will be remembered that the HollowBlock Monster Cruisers made this day a home run for Madison.

It has truly been a blessing for the club to be able to help Madison, Haven Harvey, Ethan Thuerer and Zack Foudray.

But without a team of family, friends, sponsors and support from many I could not do this show.
