Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I’m so glad to hear that someone else is as steamed as I’ve been over the mess at the airport. I even got a few calls asking if I had anything in your letter (Marilyn Walker). No, I didn’t. You just were much harder on (aviation board) president Barber than I’ve been. I was told I had to watch what I wrote; that the paper wouldn’t print it. You proved that wrong and I’m proud of you.
I actually have never figured out who died and put Barber in charge anyway. He’s done such a great job. The board must have gave him a pat on the back then said, ‘go put the screw to the next bunch.’
What is going on at the airport now? I’m told that Dave Miller has been told to vacate the premises as of Sept. 1. Also that the waiting area and maybe an office or so are empty. So in other words, for 20 years of his life this is what it has come down to. Seems like the mayor has turned everything over to Barber and the boys just follow whatever he decides to do. Everything is taken under advisement. That’s a joke. He’s decided he wants to get rid of Dave Miller no matter what. I’m counting on Phil Frantz to put a monkey wrench into Barber’s plans.
Imagine when it comes down to running the airport Dave Miller could work circles around Barber, (Mayor Bruce Hosier) and the board members. Bob Sours should never have been appointed to that board. Yes, it does look like a conflict of interest. Franklin hardly ever shows up for a meeting so his input is rare. As I have asked before, how do you get appointed and what are the qualifications to be on it? Judging from the members now, it just doesn’t take much as it’s a one-man show.
These questions that Marilyn and I have brought up I’m sure will never get answered and they will be taken under advisement. I’ve asked Mayor Hosier many times to comment, to no avail. In my book, he hasn’t the guts to do it. It’s beginning to sound as if something is being covered up. No one has ever understood how Barber came out of this XPLEX mess smelling like a rose. Sounds more like a cover up or maybe it’s still being taken under advisement.
Come on Portland; get on board. This is our airport, not president Barber’s. Get behind Dave Miller. He deserves more than he’s getting.
Thank you,
Penny Imel
Portland
Uncertain
To the editor:
Being a first-time aircraft owner earlier this year, I decided to hangar my plan at Portland Municipal Airport. I was attracted by its location and the FBO, Miller Aviation and its employees, who were helpful in answering all my first-time aircraft owner questions and providing a place to purchase fuel, oil and many aircraft-related items.
However, recently the city of Portland has canceled Miller Aviation’s contract to be the FBO for the airport without replacing them with another. This leaves me and all the flying public without a place to purchase fuel, use the FAA weather and flight planning computers, or have access to public restrooms.
I hope this situation can be rectified as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Eric Isch
