Dan: Thanks for serving (10/14/04)
Opinion
He has been the kind of city councilman mayor’s dream of.
Ask any small town mayor what he’s looking for in the way of council members, and you’ll hear a litany of characteristics. Mayors want council members who are willing to take on responsibility, who live up to their commitments, who bring intelligence and expertise to the table, and who are willing to put the interests of the community ahead of any party or personal advantage.
Dan Watson filled that bill to a T.
Dunkirk mayors of both political parties will tell you that Dan’s been a rock they have been able to depend on for the past several years.
As county engineer, he brought special insights and understanding to the job, particularly where issues of drainage and city-county cooperation were involved.
He also brought an understanding of numbers and the budget process that helped steer Dunkirk through some rocky shoals.
Dan’s resignation next month is for the best of all personal reasons; he and his wife Kelly are expecting another child.
For that, the Dunkirk community can wish the Watson family the best while at the same time expressing regret that Dan will be moving out of the public spotlight. It’s a time to say thanks for a job well done and to hope a worthy successor can be found. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
