Day-care gets nod from BZA (08/09/06
Portland Board of Zoning Appeals
By By RACHELLE HAUGHN-
Another day-care center will be available for Jay County youngsters, thanks to a decision by a local board.
Members of the Portland Board of Zoning Appeals voted Tuesday night to grant a special exception to allow a day-care in an area zoned agricultural.
Brian and Danielle Hurt made the request for a lot located at 927 and 927 1/2 E. Votaw St., Portland. The center will be located on the southeast corner of Votaw and Pierce streets.
The day-care is the site of a former greenhouse and another daycare facility. Danielle Hurt said this morning, the greenhouse used two addresses, and she plans to do the same.
Hurt said the facility will be for children from birth to 6 years old. It will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., and could care for up to 32 children. She plans to split the children into two age groups, with one group at each end of the building.
Bill Milligan, Jay/Portland Building and Planning Department administrator, said all adjacent property owners were notified of the request and he received no complaints. No one in the audience objected to the request.
Hurt said this morning she expects the day-care center to open within the next two weeks.
Parking will be available in front of the house and across Pierce Street in a stone lot.[[In-content Ad]]
