Dennis Rodman is cringe-worthy
Editorial
It’s a situation so embarrassing that you want to cringe.
But what, exactly, did a handful of basketball players expect when they got involved with Dennis Rodman?
Only the good fortune of playing on a great Chicago Bulls team with Michael Jordan gives Rodman an ounce of credibility. And that was offset long ago by his general weirdness and self-promotion.
Still, you have to feel a little sorry for the guys who listened to Rodman and joined him on his “basketball diplomacy” journey to North Korea. They may have known Rodman was a nut, but they clearly underestimated just how nutty he could be.
Whether it’s hanging out with the boy dictator or singing “Happy Birthday” to the brutal Kim Jong Un, Rodman has moved into a level of shameful behavior capable of shocking even in the jaded 21st century.
North Korea, after all, is not just a rogue nation. It’s a country that maintains its own gulag and has a half-century record of repression.
Kim Jong Un, after all, isn’t just some tinpot loudmouth. He’s been busy rattling his saber and threatening nuclear war against the United States and South Korea ever since he took power.
Did Dennis Rodman actually think he was going to change all that by shooting hoops with a tyrant? Apparently so.
But the only thing he’s succeeded in doing is confirming that he’s a fool. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
