Department says thanks
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
The Portland Fire Department would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came out to the fifth annual Fire Safety Day on Oct. 5.
We would also like to thank all the public servants who took the time out of their busy schedules to participate. These would include: Portland Police Department, Jay Emergency Medical Service, Jay County Sheriff’s Office, Rescue 19, Duane Ford of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Red Cross and Samaritan Helicopter Service. The following businesses also made special contributions: Crossroads Financial Credit Union with American Income Life Insurance, Central Gases, Bickel Rentals and Crown Point Assisted Living.
Without all of our participants, this would not be possible.
We would also like to remind everyone to practice fire safety every day and change batteries in your smoke detectors. If any Portland homeowner does not have a smoke detector, you can get one free of charge at the Portland Fire Department.
Thank you,
Mike Thomas
Portland Fire Department
Where is the press?
To the editor:
In my 86 years, I have never seen a president that would not negotiate with the house. Where is the press and the TV people on this?
