Helping Hand Food Pantry continues to need a little help from its friends.
Jay County Girl Scouts delivered hundreds of items Tuesday afternoon, but there’s an ongoing need for basics.
“We’re having trouble keeping up on cereal and canned vegetables and staples like peanut butter,” Carly Nichols, community services specialist at Community and Family Services in Portland, said Tuesday afternoon.
To help meet that need, The Commercial Review is partnering with students at Jay County High School for the first-ever “Promen-Aid.”
On prom night at JCHS — Saturday, April 21 — those attending the promenade are encouraged to bring food items or make a donation to help refill the food pantry’s stock.
Volunteers from The Commercial Review will be on hand with a van to collect the items and deliver them to the food pantry.
Donations may also be made directly to the food pantry between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the CFS offices at 521 S. Wayne St., Portland.
“We would also take toothpaste, shampoo, or soap if anyone wanted to donate,” said Nichols.
The Girl Scout food drive, headed up by Susan Bloom, involved all 10 Jay County Girl Scout troops.
Tuesday’s delivery was unloaded by members of Junior Troop 02346 and Daisy Troop 02347.
The food pantry is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The last voucher of the day is approved at 12:15 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
