Disposal contract awarded (12/31/04)
Dunkirk chooses BestWay
DUNKIRK — City council members here unanimously voted to award a new three-year contract for refuse disposal service to low bidder BestWay Disposal Co., Modoc, at a special Thursday afternoon session.
Mayor Sam Hubbard said BestWay’s bid of $318,528 for the three-year period was $100,000 less than the bid submitted by Rumpke of Greenville, Ohio, and $150,000 lower than a bid from Waste Management Inc. of Jay County and the Muncie area.
The other two bids were $421,200 from Rumpke, and $486,288 from Waste Management.
The new contract period will run from Jan. 1, 2005, to Dec. 31, 2007. Hubbard said that for the first year of the new contract, BestWay will charge the city $103,104. That cost will increase to $106,128 in the second year, and $109,296 in the third year.
BestWay has been the city’s refuse collection contractor since 1998, Hubbard said. He added that the current annual contract price is $83,520, meaning that despite BestWay’s low bid, the actual cost of the service will be higher next year.
Hubbard recommended accepting the low bid from BestWay, subject to review and approval of the final contract by city attorney William Hinkle who was not present at Thursday’s meeting.[[In-content Ad]]
