Don't let the government take away more of our rights (12/23/05)
Letter to the editor
To the editor:
To the people that do believe in Christianity: Lawmakers and U.S. courts, as well as the American Civil Liberties Union, are trying to take one more right away from you.
We are supposed to have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Congress is trying to take this away to make the people that don't believe in Christianity happy.
What happened to “We The People?” That should include all of us. The people complaining about this expect us to listen to them about their beliefs, but at the same time are asking us to throw ours out the window.
Because some people do not believe should not affect the fact that some still do. Why is it that they are trying to take away the very beliefs that this country was founded on? So we the people need to do something about this. Don't let the lawmakers take our rights away. If they take away our freedom of speech and our freedom of religion, what is left?
What will our children’s lives be like if we allow them to take our rights away now? What will become of our children’s lives? Will our government tell our children what they have to believe and what they have to feel. We cannot take this lightly. Write our legislature, have your kids write them. Don't give in to this kind of socialism. We are supposed to be a country of democracy.
Help protect our rights and our children’s rights. This is supposed to be America — the land of the free, and yet the government is sending soldiers overseas to fight for democracy and freedom as stated in the Constitution. Yet at the same time they are trying to take our freedom away.
This is stated in our Constitution — “One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.”
