Don't worry about Luck
Rays of Insight
Whenever I tell someone I made a trip to Indianapolis Colts training camp last week, I always get asked a version of the same question.
“How good is Andrew Luck?”
The answer: Andrew Luck is great. He fires spirals all over the field and has superior arm strength. And with Reggie Wayne, Austin Collie and two rookie tight ends he’ll have enough weapons to get the job done.
Luck is the least of your worries.
After watching Indianapolis practice, I would be more concerned about the offensive line, running game and defense.
There are 13 offensive lineman on the Colts roster. Eight of them weren’t in Indianapolis last year. Five of those are rookies.
No matter who the team chooses to start, it’ll be a group of players who have not worked together much, if at all.
The running game was abysmal last year, and the Colts have done little to address that issue as their only significant addition is third-down back Mewelde Moore. This will be a make-or-break season for Donald Brown, who’ll be in his fourth year in the league.
The defense is a concern less because of talent and more because of scheme. Any time a team is switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4, the first year is generally filled with growing pains.
So don’t worry about Andrew Luck and the passing game.
Instead pay attention to his blockers, his runners and the guys on the field when he’s on the bench. They will be key in determining your team’s fate this season.[[In-content Ad]]
