Down, but still holding his head up high (10/08/05)

To the editor:

Well, here we go again. Boolman has made the newspaper again. “Bond set denied” again, and how I was arrested June 23 for violating a bond that I was out on: Intimidating and battery by means of a deadly weapon, both class C felonies, pointing a firearm, a class D felony, battery resulting in bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor.

The CR printed that after my original arrest of dealing in a sawed-off shotgun, a class D felony, was added and that I was being held in the Jay County Jail without a bond and no bond set.

I have been arrested and charged with all the above, and if you have read it all and everything that’s ever been printed you’d assume I was a convict, felon, or maybe even guilty. I believe in Jay County when you’re arrested it’s only natural that you’re guilty until you can prove otherwise, and if you can’t afford an attorney that will not let the system suck you down, you will be doomed for prison.

Even when Jay County’s finest tried to involve me, arrest me, for having a meth lab that was big news, front page. Boolman plastered all over the front page of The CR, but when I beat the charge hands down because there was not and never was a lab there, you never saw one word about Boolman being not guilty.

Also I could have filed a tort claim and sued the task force and all police involved but chose not to.

The only thing that was hurt was what little bit of good reputation I used to have.

Over the past five years I’ve made the paper many more than a few times, and I still choose to hold my head high and take everything that has been passed my way.

There is always — no matter what you see or hear — two sides to every story. But there’s one thing I’ve never understood. You always get the dirty laundry. What about all the good things I’ve done in and for this community with I was up and rolling good? The taxes I paid were astronomical.

At one time I had seven employees fed and kept seven families, donated money to different charities. I recall a couple of times when there were three different families that lost everything they owned except the clothes on their back. I walked from place to place and drove from place to place and asked for donations, gathered up money, took clothes, went out of my way to help these families in their time of need.

Now that I’ve been in jail for the past four months, a local bank has filed foreclosure on one of my properties. Not only did they want to take three of my rentals, due to the fact I am in jail and they can, they wanted to set my wife and kids on the street and take the house trailer they live in.

Is there no compassion in this county whatsoever? Or when you get down on your luck do they just drive you down and down until they put you in your grave?

There is one thing for sure. I’ll make it through this no matter how many sticks and stones they may throw and when the smokes all gone I’ll still be standing, smiling because I know I am a better man than they have painted me up to be.

Jay County Jail

Benefit Sunday

To the editor:

At 1 p.m. Sunday at the Farmers’ Building at the Jay County Fairgrounds, there will be a benefit for Dave Pogue Jr., who was permanently disabled due to an accident caused by a drunk driver, who in turn fled the scene.

There will be a variety of events with the proceeds going to help pay for a prosthetic leg and more handicapped accessible bathroom.

Come on, Jay County, let’s show them how we help one of our own in need.

God bless to you all.
