Drainage OK'd for Moser expansion (11/13/06)
Jay County Commissioners
By By MARY ANN LEWIS-
Expansion is in the works at Moser Engineering and drainage plans for the proposed addition were presented to the Jay County Drainage Board today.
Jay County Surveyor Brad Daniels told Jay County Commissioners, meeting as the drainage board, that plans call for expanding the industry on county road 100 East near the Morton Street extension by almost 25,000-square feet - including 2,400 square feet for fabrication and 20,400 feet for manufacturing.
Daniels told board members Faron Parr, Gary Theurer, and Milo Miller Jr., that a retention pond located on the property would adequately handle any excess water.
"The retention pond has enough capacity for this addition," Daniels said.
The board approved the plans presented for the expansion.
"That's great," Miller said about the expansion.
In another matter, Daniels explained to the board that he was unable to locate a survey pin at the intersection of Western Avenue and West Votaw Street.
He explained there had been a discrepancy in where the pin might be located and since "they were digging the road up anyway" in that area, it was decided to look for the pin.
However, after digging in two different areas, Daniels said he was unable to locate the marker and that a new pin had to be established.
The board expressed concern that relocating a new surveyor's pin would change survey results of all land in that area, but Daniels explained that a new pin would be set after going to the oldest evidence available and relocating the pin.
Concerning construction along West Votaw Street, Daniels said that all tile work has been done and the paving has been completed.
Noting how close the roadway now comes to homes along that street, Daniels said the state has an 80 foot right-of-way along and beside Votaw Street, which is also Ind. 26/67.
Following the drainage board meeting, commissioners met with John Gause, president of Apex Benefits Group Inc., and learned that premiums for county employees' health insurance through Principal Financial would see a 7.9 percent increase in 2007.
"That's pretty doggone good news," Gause said of the increase, adding current health insurance coverage costs are lower than in 2004.
That increase will now have employees who are on a single coverage plan paying $3.01 per month. During 2006 that employee paid $1 per year for health coverage.
The county pays $450 monthly toward all employees' health insurance plans and the increase of $5.68 on a single plan will take the monthly payment over that amount, auditor Freda Corwin explained.
Employee and spouse coverage will see an additional $53.04 cost to the $167.50 those employees currently pay and an employee with child health care will be an additional $49.91 per month over $103.35.
Commissioners also heard Garth "Mike" LeMaster, director of Jay County Community Corrections, say that he will be submitting a request for a grant of $114,835 to run the department from July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2009.
LeMaster, who will be retiring on Jan. 1, said the grant will be sought through the Indiana Department of Correction.[[In-content Ad]]
