Dunkirk budget passed (8/31/04)
Council goes through first reading
DUNKIRK — Council members here approved the first of two required readings of the city’s 2005 budget during a brief meeting Monday evening.
The new budget totals just under $1.4 million for the general fund which supports most city services, council president Dan Watson said.
He added the maximum estimated funds to be raised from property taxes for the budget totals about $866,000. The city’s current tax levy is $725,555.
Approval of the first reading of the budget was the only item on the agenda at Monday’s session. Watson made the motion for approval which was unanimously accepted.
The council is scheduled to approve the second and final reading for the budget at its next regular session at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 13 at Dunkirk City Hall.
The 2005 budget will include a 4 percent across-the-board pay increase for city employees. That will represent the biggest change between the 2004 and 2005 budgets.
The city’s $1.4 million general fund includes expenses for the city council, clerk-treasurer’s office, police and fire departments, as well as most other city departments and employee health insurance and pension costs.[[In-content Ad]]
