DUNKIRK - Council members will meet Thursday evening for a public hearing on the city's 2009 budget as well as monthly business.
Monday night's council meeting was canceled due to lack of a quorum. In attendance Monday evening were council members Judy Garr and Tom Johnson. Three council members are needed for a quorum.
Also present was mayor Ron Hunt.
Absent were councilmen Raymond Pettus, Craig Faulkner and Larry Smith.
Thursday's meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in Dunkirk City Hall, 131 S. Main St.
Although no official council business could be conducted Monday, Mayor Hunt brought up a few points for discussion. These included:
•A request by city officials and Ind. 167 construction crews for residents to keep watch over the new Main Street sidewalks until they have hardened. Hunt said there have been several incidents of vandalism, especially by juveniles.
The mayor said in some communities parents or legal guardians have been held responsible for the repair of new sidewalks which were damaged by juveniles. The cost of repairing a section of freshly-poured cement sidewalk could total several thousand dollars, Hunt said.
•Five-year park plan survey forms will be available at the Dunkirk city clerk's office through Oct. 8. Johnson explained that the two-page survey form seeks information about residents' views concerning future park improvements. Deadline to return the survey forms is Oct. 8.
Also a public meeting to discuss the subject further and review the survey results is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 16 in Dunkirk City Hall, Johnson said.[[In-content Ad]]
