Editorial missed the mark

Letters to the Editor

To the editor:
Oh come now!
Reading JR’s editorial on “Shock Jocks” was discouraging. It’s like there was some conference call that morning to all the media to reverberate the sentiments of Sheriff Dupnik, who was stating his personal opinion in a recent “news” conference.
Let’s be serious for a moment here. Where is the evidence that proves this out? I don’t have a lot of spare time but thanks to the sources available through modern technology, what research I have been able to do has revealed nothing to support that theory.
How about we look at the sheriff for a moment? Did he know this Jared Loughner? Signs point to yes. I won’t take up the space here but all one needs to do is spend a little time searching this connection out and you will quickly find that there was indeed prior knowledge of Jared’s condition by this outspoken Sheriff.
There are also local political connections and this sheriff just looks dirtier by the minute. This news story will probably die out pretty quickly. Not the ramifications of the actions that created the tragedy — this is indeed a national tragedy which needs to be addressed — but the fallacy that “Shock Jocks” caused it is just diversionary and leads to a separate agenda.
Did you hear Bill Maher on the Tonight show last night? I don’t usually stay up that late but thought I would check in with Jay before bed. Now there was some vitriol!
He (Mr. Bill) actually said that “you won’t find Democrats at a Gun show”. Come on man, why did you say that? Was he included in the conference call? Without the media avenues available to us now, though Internet and radio, what are we left with? Network News? Mainstream newspapers? They all say the same thing! They all report from the same conference call.
The political discussion is indeed of extreme importance and yes, I will agree should be toned down; but equally, on both sides of the debate. Our lack of involvement as citizens in the governance of this country has led this great nation to where it is now — broke and knee-capped before the world stage.
Now that the people are becoming educated and involved, the move to shut down our avenues for discussion is increasing, which is apparently what the originators of that conference call want.
Wake up America, don’t believe the pundants who are basically saying; “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”
Pull the curtain back and look at what is making the Wizard appear. I know, strange analogy but the point here is; we are a government created “by the people, for the people”, and that means you.
We are in historic times — our time — and America’s future is our responsibility. Don’t fall asleep on your watch.
