Middle school volleyball
The East Jay and Fort Recovery middle school volleyball teams split Thursday night.
Fort Recovery's eighth graders defeated the host Chiefs 25-18, 25-19. In the eighth grade match EJMS topped the Indians 25-6, 25-15.
Chelsea Pottkotter finished with 13 points, including four aces, and seven kills to power the FRMS eighth graders (6-3). Janelle Schwiterman added eight points and five assists, and Amy Link had three kills.
Mikayla Wellman had seven points and Hannah Ainsworth totaled seven assists for East Jay, which suffered its first loss of the season to fall to 4-1. Abbey Vance had five kills, and Emily Devoe added four points.
The seventh grade Chiefs stayed perfect at 5-0 behind 12 aces from Rachael Ferguson. Tasya Smith had four assists, and Katie Aker notched a pair of kills.
Ashley Homan finished with six points for Fort Recovery (0-9). Morgan Dues had two points, and Becky Brockman and Hannah Kaup each added a pair of digs.
