Election filing underway (01/23/08)
Filing for local 2008 elections got started this morning with more of a trickle than a flood.
Just five candidates - all Republicans and four of them incumbents - filled out paperwork this morning in the Jay County Clerk's office to run for elected office in the May 6 primary election.
The four GOP incumbents currently hold countywide offices.
The four are Faron Parr, 203 W. Main St., Bryant (Commissioner North District), Robin Alberson, 4890 South U.S. 27 (Jay County Treasurer), Marilyn Coleman, 16 S. Union St., Redkey (Jay County Council at-large) and Bradley A. Daniels, 324 N. Commerce St., Portland (Jay County Surveyor).
Another Republican running for office is Paulette Bonvillian Wagner, 805 E. Walnut St. Wagner is running for corner.
Currently serving as a deputy coroner, Wagner was appointed as coroner following the resignation of former corner Brad Myers. She was defeated in the 2004 election by current corner Mark Barnett.
This primary and general election cycle promises to be busy, as county, state and federal office holders will be selected.
Other races on the county level will be judge of Jay Superior and Jay Circuit, Jay County Clerk, Commissioner South District and a total of three at-large seats on the Jay County Council.
Current South District Commissioner Gary Theurer has indicated he does not plan to run for re-election, as has Jay Superior Court Judge Joel Roberts.
Republican Max Ludy Jr. said last week he plans to file to run for superior court judge.
The filing period to run as a major party candidate in the general election closes at noon on Friday, Feb. 22.
The general election, which in Jay County will also include the selection of members of the Jay School Board, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
