Excited about extreme sports park (4/28/05)

Here we go again. I really can’t help but say again how much I am anticipating the extreme sports park in Portland.

Let me just say that there are a lot of race car drivers in Portland and Jay County. Some of these drivers and owners travel many miles to race, including to Knoxville, Iowa, as a late-model team from Dunkirk did recently.

Most of these teams and drivers will compete at this track, but people are still crying and comlaining. I would name some drivers, but I don’t want to leave anyone out. There are late-model teams, UMRA midget teams, UMP modified teams, several street stock teams and a few thunder cars, not including all the demolition derby drivers.

Obviously Portland is a racing community and always will be due to the nearby Gas City Speedway, Montpelier Speedway, Eldora Speedway and Union County Speedway.

Maybe even in a later time we can get a monster truck event. Oddly enough, there’s a monster truck team in Portland.

So I would say let’s get ‘er done and let’s go racing Jay County. All the other drivers, owners and people who love racing, tell Mayor Bruce Hosier, tell Glynn Barber and tell Bill Davis that you want to see racing in Portland.

If we build it they will come.
