Explosive month puts Kahlig in top 5

Less than a month ago, Greg Kahlig was barely cracking the top 20.
Thanks to an explosive end to the regular season, he’s now the fourth-highest scorer in the country.
The 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate scored 39 points Saturday in the final regular-season home game of his career to lead the No. 23 University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 79-63 win over Malone. That effort followed up back-to-back career-high games of 40 and 42 points as he climbed to fourth in scoring average in NCAA Division II.
Kahlig lit up Malone, going 14-of-24 from the field with five 3-pointers and 6-of-6 from the line while scoring three times as many points as anyone else on the floor. He added seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
He also hit five 3-pointers Feb. 20 while shooting 18-of-27 (67 percent) from the field in an 82-81 win over Walsh. He had three rebounds and two assists for the Oilers (21-4).
At 24.2 points per game, Kahlig trails only Mark McLaughlin (27.3) of Central Washington, Roderick Perkins (25.3) of Erskine and Garret Kerr (24.6) of University of Sciences in the Division II scoring race. He has 1,747 points for his career, and has made 70 3-pointers this season.
Scott Schwieterman

Closed his freshman season with a third straight double-digit scoring performance to help the Anderson University men’s basketball team to a 74-73 win over Earlham.
Schwieterman shot 7-of-13 from the field and totaled 19 points for the Ravens (6-19). He also had three rebounds, two assists and a block.
Eme Miller
JCHS – 2012
Finished in the top four in a pair of events Saturday to help the Defiance College women’s track team win the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Miller was the runner-up in the 5,000-meter run, setting a school-record time as she finished in 18 minutes, 24.8 seconds. She was also fourth in 10:43.4 in the 3,000 run.
Kylie Kahlig
FRHS – 2012
Was one of five players to score in double figures for the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team, which closed its regular season Saturday with a 105-74 blowout of Madonna.
Kahlig shot 5-of-8 from the field and made all of her five free-throw attempts to score 16 points. She also had six rebounds, three assists and a steal.
Hannah Moore
SAHS – 2012
Turned in a career-best time as she competed for the Huntington University women’s track team Saturday at the DePauw Indoor Classic.
Moore recorded her new career record in the 5,000-meter run in 18 minutes, 36.82 seconds. She finished in third place.
Kegan Comer
JCHS – 2013
Scored in double figures Saturday as the NAIA Division II No. 12 University of St. Francis men’s basketball team closed its regular season with a 70-68 win over Goshen.
Comer shot 5-of-8 from the field, including 3-of-4 from long distance, and finished with 14 points for the Cougars (21-10). He also had three rebounds and an assist.
He totaled nine points, two assists and a rebound as USF suffered a 63-55 upset loss Wednesday to Spring Arbor in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament.
Tyler Back
JCHS – 2013
Competed in two events Saturday for the Grace College men’s track team at the National Christian College Athletic Association Indoor Championships hosted by Olivet Nazarene.
Back placed 13th for the Lancers in the weight throw with a toss of 42 feet, 3 1/4 inches. He recorded a distance of 41 feet, 5 inches for 17th in the shot put.
Katie Snyder
JCHS – 2013
Ran for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team at the NCCAA Indoor Championships.
Snyder competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing fifth in her heat. Her time of 8.38 seconds placed her 17th overall.
Pazia Speed
JCHS – 2010
Played efficiently in helping the NAIA Division II No. 19 Huntington University women’s basketball team to a 78-41 victory Tuesday over Bethel in the opening round of the Crossroads League Tournament.
Speed shot 4-of-6 from the field and made her only three-point attempt to finish with 10 points. She also had a team-high five assists to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
The senior had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists for the Foresters (23-7) in their 59-50 win Saturday over Taylor. Huntington will play Indiana Wesleyan in the semifinal round of the tournament Friday.

Led the Bethel College women’s basketball team in rebounds Saturday as it finished the regular season with a 64-58 loss to Grace.
Hunt grabbed six rebounds and also had three assists and one steal.
