Facade change less than estimate
Jay County Commissioners
A change order for masonry work on the Main Street-facing side of the Jay County Jail expansion to reflect the historic downtown has come in under original cost estimates.
Jeff Badders of SchenkelShultz told the Jay County Commissioners that costs to build a parapet on the Main Street side of the jail will cost $37,307.87. Badders, in November, estimated that construction would cost between $40,000 and $45,000.
It was one of two change orders Badders mentioned Monday afternoon, the other being a combination of suggestions from the county and changes from the engineering side that will save $1,830.79 from the original bid costs.
Both change orders will be presented to the Jay County Building Corporation at that board's meeting on Wednesday morning.
In other business Monday, the commissioners:
•Heard a presentation from Jay County Chamber of Commerce director Vicki Tague about the Shop Jay County First program. Tague told the commissioners about the benefits the county could see if government calls upon local businesses for work.
•The commissioners agreed to send out a memorandum to all county departments asking departments to use Jay County businesses for purchases and services if possible.
•Opened annual bids for stone and concrete bridge and equipment rental. The bids were tabled for review by highway department superintendent Ken Wellman.[[In-content Ad]]
