Farmer's market returns Saturday
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
Thanks to the support of Jay County Commissioners and the City of Portland, there will again be a Farmer’s Market in 2014.
Starting on June 7, a Farmer’s Market will be held on the south side of the Jay County Court House from 8:00 a.m. until noon each Saturday. The public is encouraged not to park on the south side of the court house during those hours so that vendors can, on a first-come-first served basis, set up shop in a maximum of two parking spaces per vendor.
Vendors will be asked to sign up when they first sell their wares and will be charged $1.00 to cover the cost of their paperwork. They will be expected to do the following:
1. Assume liability for their products and their actions.
2. Leave the spaces they occupy in the same condition as they were found.
3. Abide by all applicable health requirements.
Excess produce from gardeners can be sold at the Farmer’s Market or donated to the Community and Family Services food bank. Commercial growers and craftsmen are also encouraged to sell their products at the Farmer’s Market.
Thanks again to the commissioners and city for their support.
Questions can be addressed to John Young at (260) 726-2565 or Michael Peterson at (260) 703-0446.
