FCC (Indiana) a great corporate citizen (6/28/05)

To the editor:

Last April, FCC (Indiana), one of Portland/Jay County’s most valued industries, was “threatened with contempt over the alleged firing” of an employee who claimed that she was told that she would lose her job if she “responded to a jury duty summons.”

Fortunately, and rightfully so, these charges were dismissed after a thorough investigation of the company’s policies relative to jury duty summons were found to be “in accordance with the laws of the State of Indiana.”

It’s been my pleasure and honor to work very closely with this company for the past 13 and a half years in my position. I have witnessed their steady growth from an 80,000-square foot facility, employing 120 associates with $45 million in sales to their current status of more than a 200,000-square foot facility with 520 associates, more than $200 million in sales and an accumulated investment of approximately $88 million and still growing.

Their associates are provided with one of the best, fringe benefit packages available among Jay County industries.

This includes, but is not limited to, full medical/dental coverage with a core plan offering zero deductible, a 401K retirement plan with 3 percent matching contributions by FCC, free work uniforms and a complete set of safety materials, paid vacation, and an excellent attendance bonus program. Add to this the fact that they have never laid off anyone since they located here in 1988 and several years ago they built recreational facilities to the east of their plant for associates and others to enjoy.

Currently close to 75 percent of the 520 associates working at this plant live in Jay County.

Statistics show that most people spend the majority of their earnings where they live. With this in mind, approximately $13 to $14 million of FCC’s annual payroll could be turning over some three to seven times in our community.

During the past five years their contributions to local charities totaled closed to $170,000 and, like everything else they do, their contributions continue to grow.

FCC (Indiana), thank you for being one of Portland/Jay County’s excellent corporate citizens. We are proud to have you and look forward to many more years of the same.

Bob Quadrozzi,

executive director,

Jay County
