Fiber Fest organizers give thanks (04/12/07)

Letter to the Editor

To the editor:

The Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau recently held its annual Fiber Fest and Spin-In at the Jay County Fairgrounds. We are happy to announce that the event was a huge success. Over the course of three days the Fiber Fest brought in more than 800 visitors, with people traveling from as far away as Pennsylvania to attend the festival.

The event began in 2004 and was called the Giant Spin-In. The idea behind the spin-in was to showcase fiber artists spinning all day on their spinning wheels. Over the years it has grown, adding classes, an educational day, entertainment and some animals. In an effort to make it clear that the event was devoted to the fiber arts, we changed the name this year to Fiber Fest & Spin-In.

The Jay County Visitor and Tourism Bureau and Teasel Hill Angora Farm would like to thank everyone who participated in the Fiber Fest and Spin-In: Jay Randolph Developmental Services and Jay County High School for helping with mailings; Julena Valentine, for her work behind the scenes; the Jay County High School FFA and science classes for helping with education day; our sponsors - Jay County Antique Mall, Swissland Cheese Co. of Bern, Sharlette's Fudgery & Candies; The Glass Bonsai; and Bearcreek Farms Country Resort. Also, our entertainers - Faere Wyndes; the Limberlost String Band; and the Melody Makers of Indiana extension homemakers chorus; along with all of the vendors.

The JCVTB thanks everyone who attended, and we look forward to another great event March 6-8, 2008. Hope to see you there.

Gyneth Augsburger, executive director, JCVTB; Jennifer Nixon, administrative assistant, JCVTB; and Julie Davidson, Teasel Hill Angora Farm[[In-content Ad]]
