NEW MADISON, Ohio - The Indians and Patriots were scoring by the dozens Saturday night.
Drew Moore led host Tri-Village with three-dozen points. But Fort Recovery overcame his effort with two-dozen apiece from Greg Kahlig and Cody Fiely to escape with a 72-70 win.
The Tribe (3-0) trailed much of the way, falling behind by nine at halftime. It pulled to within four with eight minutes to play and took the two-point win thanks to a 54-percent second-half shooting effort led by Fiely and Kahlig.
Fiely turned in an outstanding night from the field, leading the Indians to their six-dozen points with a 10-of-14 effort to score his 24. He also grabbed six rebounds and had one steal and one assist.
Kahlig poured in his 24 on 8-of-15 shooting from the field and 8-of-11 from the foul line. He grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to lead FRHS to a 36-24 advantage on the glass, and dished out a game-best six assists.
The effort moved Kahlig to fifth all time in career scoring for Fort Recovery with 1,162 points. He passed 1952 graduate Bob Fiely (1,151), and is just four points behind 1967 graduate Tom Bryan for fourth place.
Craig Tobe added a dozen points for the Indians to go along with seven rebounds.
Moore shot 16-of-18 at the foul line buried half of his eight 3-point tries for Tri-Village on the way to his 36-point effort. Cody Gunckel added 16 points and five rebounds, and Matt Miller had six boards.
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery could not overcome Aaron Cassel's 25 points in a 48-44 loss to the Patriots.
Cassel scored more than half of his team's points on 8-of-14 shooting while the rest of his squad shot a meager 5-of-21 (24 percent) from the field. The game was tied at halftime, but the Tribe fell behind scoring just two points in the third quarter.
Jared Kahlig led the Indians with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Shane Brunswick and Trent Kaiser added nine points apiece, and Elliot Post grabbed seven rebounds.
