Filer does not live in district (02/06/06)
A rural Portland woman who filed recently to run in the Republican primary for Commissioner of the Middle District apparently is not a resident of that district and wouldn’t be eligible for the office.
Vicki Cecil, 3692 East 400 South, filed paperwork Friday to join incumbent Milo Miller Jr. and Jack Houck in the race.
Jay County Clerk Jane Ann Runyon said this morning that Cecil, a Madison Township resident, does not live in the middle district, which includes Noble, Wayne, Greene and Knox townships.
Runyon said late this morning she plans to contact Cecil and ask her if she wishes to voluntarily withdraw from the race by the withdrawal deadline of noon on Tuesday, Feb. 22.
If not, Runyon said that any registered voter in Jay County could challenge Cecil’s eligibility. That challenge would be decided by the county election board.
The first candidate for Jay County Assessor — Democrat Ron Harris, a rural Richland Township resident — recently filed. Harris lives at 10840 West 600 South, Redkey.
State Rep. Bill Davis, R-Portland, made a courtesy filing this morning at the clerk’s office to enter the primary to seek a second term in office.
Others filing recently:
•Jodi Lee Ward, 631 Lincoln Ave., Dunkirk, Richland Township Trustee, Republican.
•Zeb L. Sutton, 8896 West Ind. 67, Redkey, Redkey Town Board, Democrat.
•Luella M. DiBattiste, 521 S. George St., Redkey, South Redkey Precinct Committeeman, Democrat.
•Linda L. Peters, 3585 East Ind. 26, Portland, Wayne 5 Precinct Committeeman and candidate for state convention, Republican.[[In-content Ad]]
