Flooding still a concern
Letters to the Editor
To the editor:
I’m glad to see in the paper that the commissioners are looking at the county ditches. You know, they all go to the Salamonie River. Has anyone looked at the river east and west of town? It is in bad need of trenching.
It should be made deeper and wider. The big arch bridge has a lot of dirt in the river below it, and a tree about to fall in.
The Wayne Street bridge needs cleaned out at the bottom.
How many years has it been since the river has been dredged? A long time. The city and county better get on the ball before another flood. We don’t need more damage to our friends and neighbors.
I have a family member that has not recovered from the last one. Didn’t get help; no job or income. We don’t need another one.
Sunday and Monday (Nov. 13-14) we only had a 2-inch rain and the river was three-fourths the way full. Look what 5 or 6 inches would do.
I know that city and county has been thinking about this problem.
We can’t wait 10 years.
Thank you.
