Forget excuses, get out and vote
Editorial
You’ve heard the excuses.
They’re trotted out every election year: A single vote doesn’t count.
There’s not a nickel’s worth of difference between the two parties.
I can’t be bothered to take the time to learn about the candidates and what they stand for.
It doesn’t seem to matter to the folks who utter these things that they are completely, demonstrably false.
Anyone who says a single vote doesn’t count wasn’t paying attention when a presidential election hung in the balance in Florida a few years back.
Local races have been determined by a handful of ballots. Repeating the lie doesn’t make it true. Every vote does, indeed, count.
And the line about there being no difference between the parties has never been more wrong-headed.
The one thing both parties have in common is that they believe the other party’s positions are bad for America and its future.
As to the line about voting being too much effort, that’s enough to prompt a swift kick in the behind.
Citizenship has its responsibilities. Taking the time to learn a bit about the candidates and actually going to the polls to vote fall into that category.
And voting itself has never been more convenient.
If you’re going to be busy on Election Day, go ahead and stop by the Jay County Courthouse in the next several days.
The early voting site will even be open today and next Saturday from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. so that ballots may be cast.
As to the excuses, it’s time for them to be retired once and for all. — J.R.[[In-content Ad]]
