Collegiate Check-up

A couple of Jay County High School graduates helped the IU-East men's basketball team to three wins over the winter break.

Tyler Rigby (2006) and Dustin Overton (2004) contributed to the Red Wolves 3-2 record since Dec. 19, which included an 85-78 victory Thursday over Alice Lloyd.

Rigby led IU-East (12-6) in its most recent win, racking up 16 points. He also had four rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Overton, who missed the season's first 13 games with an injury, scored two points.

The highest scoring game during the last three weeks for Rigby came Dec. 20 in a 79-65 loss to host Knights in the Marian College tournament. He had 24 points and three rebounds in that game after totaling 13 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals in the opening round of the tournament against Berea. He was named to the all-tournament team.

Overton had his best outing in his first game of the season, the win over Berea. He shot 4-of-7 from the field and totaled nine points, eight rebounds and an assist.

Rigby had eight points Jan. 3 in a loss to IU-Southeast and five points, two rebounds and two blocks in a win Monday over IU-Northwest. Overton finished with four points and four rebounds in Monday's victory.

The sophomore followed up that effort with 18 points, including an 8-for-8 effort at the foul line in an 84-80 loss Jan. 3 to Transylvania. And Wednesday she totaled eight points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists as Defiance knocked off Rose-Hulman 50-44.[[In-content Ad]]
