The only person who could keep Amanda Johnson from winning a national title was her own teammate. No one could get in the way of Brandon Reynard in his quest for a conference crown.
Johnson, a 2008 Jay County High School graduate, picked up a second-place finish for the Indiana Wesleyan University women’s track team at the National Christian College Athletic Association Championships May 5 through 7. Reynard, JCHS class of 2009, earned a Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship for the Indiana Tech men’s team on Friday.
Johnson narrowly missed winning a national title in the 800-meter run as she finished in 2 minutes, 16.88 seconds. The only runner faster at the meet hosted by Judson University was her Wildcat teammate, Cassidy Wagner, by just seven hundredths of a second.
Reynard turned in a solid victory for his WHAC crown, winning the 400 hurdles title in 53.08. His teammate, Zac Chapman, was the runner-up in 53.83.
The one-two finish by Wagner and Johnson helped lead the IWU women’s team (139 points) to a second-place finish behind Bethel (196.5). Reynard’s Warriors (151 points) finished as the Wolverine Hoosier runners-up behind Siena Heights (205).
Josh Ludy
Jay County – 2008
Helped spark the Baylor University baseball team’s offense as it fell just short Tuesday in a 7-6 loss to 10th-ranked Texas Christian.
Ludy finished 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI for the Bears, and was also hit by pitches twice.
The junior catcher was hit by a pitch in the second inning and eventually scored on a Cal Towey single. He was hit by a pitch again in the third, and added an RBI double to score Max Muncy in the fifth.
Billy Wellman
Jay County – 2009
Delivered as a pinch hitter for the Ball State University baseball team Wednesday in a 14-9 loss to Purdue.
Wellman came off the bench in the sixth inning and delivered a single to left field. He was retired at second base on a fielder’s choice.[[In-content Ad]]
