UNION CITY, Ohio — So far, so good.
Fort Recovery marched to a win Friday in the season opener, rolling past the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks 28-0.
Kenny Wenning completed 12-of-16 passes for 193 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Indians. Aaron Vagedes caught on of those passes and scored another TD on the ground. Derek Gaerke, who also scored on a blocked punt, hauled in the other for the Indians, who scored a TD in each quarter.
The first came when a Mississinawa Valley punt was blocked and Gaerke took the ball into the end zone with 2:04 on the first quarter clock. The Indians scored again late in the second when Wenning Wenning hit Vagedes with a a 26-yard TD pass, and Jason Pottkotter successfully made the two-point conversion for a 15-0 lead.
In the third, it was Vagades again, this time on a 7-yard run capping a strong drive by the Indians. And Wenning’s second TD of the night came on a 33-yard pass play to Gaerke with 10:54 on the clock in the fourth.
The Indians passed for 199 yards and picked up 89 on the ground for 288 yards of total offense. Meanwhile the defense gave up just 130 total yards to the Blackhawks, all but four of which came on the ground.[[In-content Ad]]
