Fort blasts Tigers

ANSONIA, Ohio - Another outstanding shooting night keyed the Indians Saturday.

After torching the nets for 65 percent Friday night, Fort Recovery High School's boys basketball team continued to shoot well against the Ansonia Tigers. The Tribe hit for 60 percent in the second half on the way to a 63-48 victory.

The Indians (8-1) used an 11-0 run in the second quarter to push to a 28-16 lead. They led by eight at halftime, but pushed their lead to double-digits for good on Craig Tobe's hoop to start the second half.

Greg Kahlig powered Fort Recovery, which outscored Ansonia 35-20 in the second and third quarters, with 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting. He also had seven rebounds and two steals.

The senior, who is averaging 27 points per game, pulled to within 22 points of 1973 graduate Kevin Dilworth for second on the school's all-time scoring list.

Cody Fiely had a pair of 3-pointers as he shot 4-of-5 for 13 points, and Wade Gelhaus added a 5-of-8 effort for 10 points. Michael Gaerke totaled eight rebounds and three assists, both team highs, and Tobe had seven boards.

Kyle Young totaled 20 points to lead the Tigers, but shot just 6-of-18 from the field. Reese Walters had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Zach Brown also scored 10 points.

Junior varsity

Shane Brunswick racked up 24 points to lead the Indians to a 42-30 victory over Ansonia.

Brunswick hit three 3-pointers as he scored twice as many points as any other player in the game. He also had seven rebounds and four steals.

Jared Kahlig added eight points for Fort Recovery, and Ryan Link grabbed seven rebounds.

Taylor Young led the Tigers with 12 points and three rebounds. John Liette and Derek Kaiser each added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
