Fort board chooses flooring firm
Fort Recovery School Board
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery School Board took a step to keep progress moving on the high school’s new student activity center.
Board members met in a special session Wednesday and chose a bid from Cincinnati Floor Company to install flooring at the new facility, which is being built at the southwest corner of the high school property where the 1935 section of the building previously stood. The board’s next regular meeting is Tuesday.
On a recommendation from superintendent Shelly Vaughn, board members chose the Cincinnati Floor bid of $64,900 despite it not being the lowest. Other bids for the project were $55,600 from Centaur Floor Systems (California) and Top Shelf Sports (Michigan) and $69,750 from The Ohio Floor Company (Holmesville).
Vaughn told board members Centaur and Top Shelf did not follow the bid specifications, instead submitting two bids — one for the flooring it self and another for the installation. She also noted that she and other administrators had concerns because the companies asked for a 50-percent deposit up front.
“Because the first one didn’t follow the bid (specifications), it would be our recommendation to go with Cincinnati Floor,” said Vaughn, noting that she and others did a lot of research about whether accepting the low bid would be in the school’s best interest. “We’re not comfortable making the recommendation, even though they’re the lowest bid.”
School board members Jose Faller, Aaron Guggenbiller, Amy Bihn and Dave Hull voted unanimously to choose the bid from Cincinnati Floor. Ginny Fortkamp was absent from the meeting.
Progress on the activity center is going along smoothly, Vaughn said, and the hope is to have the floor installed within a month with the facility open sometime this spring.
“We couldn’t be happier with the contractors,” said Vaughn. “They’ve done a heck of a job. … They’re just outstanding.”
