Will be located southeast of village

FORT RECOVERY — The quality of cell phone service in and around the village is likely to improve dramatically.
The village was recently notified that a company representing cellular phone service provider Nextel plans to construct a 300-foot tall communications tower along Sharpsburg Road.
Fort Recovery was notified of the construction because it owns property in the industrial park that is near the planned tower site.
Village administrator Randy Diller, who discussed the tower with members of the village council Monday night, said today that improvements in cell phone service would be welcomed.
Cingular also has investigated installing a tower near Fort Recovery.
Also Monday, Diller told council members that approximately 400 feet of sanitary sewer line has been installed in the Gwendolyn Street project by Sutter Excavation.
The project will separate the storm and residential sewer lines along the street, which is on the west side of the village near the former West Elementary School.
The council agreed to pay Sutter $9,800 Monday out of the total project cost of $79,192.
In other business Monday, members of the village council:
•Were told that the annual park clean-up date for volunteers has been scheduled for Saturday, May 7. More details on the event will be released, Diller said today.
•Learned that clean-up from the January ice storm is ongoing. “We’re continuing on with the trimming of trees that were damaged and picking up limbs ... We’ll be wrapping some of that up in the next few weeks,” Diller said. Private contractors have been hired to do some of the trimming work that requires bucket trucks or climbing of trees.
Because a disaster was declared, the village will be reimbursed for 75 percent of its clean-up costs by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
•Heard Diller report that 23 applications have been received for the utility operator/trainee position with the water treatment plant.
•Received an update on a requested grant to purchase a generator for the village’s sewage pump stations. The request, which was made to Mercer County Emergency Management, is still pending.[[In-content Ad]]
