Fort clobbers Franklin Monroe (12/01/07)

FORT RECOVERY - A dominant effort on the glass helped lift the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team back to .500 Saturday with a 67-39 victory over the Franklin Monroe Jets.
The Tribe nearly doubled Franklin Monroe in rebounding, grabbing 48 rebounds compared to just 25 for the visitors. The result was 13 more field goal attempts at 13 more free throws as Fort Recovery moved to 2-2.
The Indians led by seven after the opening quarter, and then dominated the second 21-6 to take control. Franklin Monroe shot just 23 percent in the opening half and 25 percent for the game.
Nicole Pottkotter had team highs of 12 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to lead Fort Recovery. She also had a pair of steals.
Joanna Snyder and Chelsey Leuthold each joined Pottkotter in double figures with 11 points apiece. Snyder added nine rebounds, six steals and three assists, and Anne Koesters grabbed eight rebounds.
Jessica Heidebrand had 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks, all of which were team highs, for Franklin Monroe. Sierra Bruner added 10 points, and Tiffany Kossler finished with five rebounds.
Junior varsity
Fort Recovery limited the Jets to four or fewer points in three of the four quarters of their 61-24 victory.
The Indians were up 20-4 after the opening period, and held a 28-point lead at halftime. They limited Franklin Monroe to 27 percent shooting for the game and forced 32 turnovers.
Nicole Dilworth came off the bench to lead Fort Recovery with 11 points. Shelby Brunswick also had double figures off the bench with 10 points, and Kendra Brunswick added nine.
Dilworth also had three assists, three steals and a block, and Olivia Thien came up with five steals.
