Fort closes season on six-game win streak (02/11/05)
FRHS girls basketball
FORT RECOVERY — The game was over early. And not just because of the odd start time.
With no junior varsity contest, the Fort Recovery Indians and Parkway Panthers got started at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Only eight minutes later the contest was over as the Tribe bolted out to a 25-6 lead en route to a 62-25 victory.
The win was the sixth in a row for Fort Recovery, which finished the regular season with a 15-5 record. That mark is one win better than a year ago, and the Indians now hope to carry that momentum into the New Bremen sectional where they will take on the New Knoxville Rangers Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The Indians, who finished third in the Midwest Athletic Conference for the second straight year at 7-2 behind Division IV No. 2 Marion Local and No. 9 Minster, beat New Knoxville 50-29 when they met Jan. 25.
Holly Stein paced the Tribe with 12 points as it scored as many points in the first quarter as Parkway did in the entire game. She went 5-of-8 from the field and hit both of her 3-point attempts. She also shared team highs of five rebounds and five steals.
Tiff Gaerke joined Stein in double figures with 10 points. Krystal Rammel added eight points, and Vicki Roessner and Megan Wenning each notched seven points.
Wenning and Kelly Link matched Stein’s five rebounds, and Roessner joined her with five steals. Roessner had four assists and four rebounds, and Rammel and Gaerke also added four boards apiece.
Sara Fortkamp finished with five assists and four steals.
Two players accounted for most of the points for the Panthers, who finished 1-19 and 0-9 in the MAC. Addie Hays notched a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Tiffany Steinbrunner also scored 10 points. They each shot 5-of-11 from the field.
Elizabeth Smith grabbed eight rebounds and also dished out three assists.[[In-content Ad]]
