Gwendolyn project won't be as much as expected

FORT RECOVERY — Completing the Gwendolyn Street improvement project will cost less than expected.
On Monday, Fort Recovery village council members accepted the low bid of $214,386.65 from Jutte Excavating of Fort Recovery for the final phase of the project. This bid was less than the village’s estimated $248,000 project cost.
A second bid totaling $247,719.05 was submitted by Chuck Samples General Contracting of Celina, Ohio.
The final phase of this project will reconstruct streets, curbs and sidewalks. According to project specifications, construction must be completed by the end of September.
Also Monday, council members accepted a $24,913 quote from Wagner Paving of Laura, Ohio to pave three blocks of South Wayne Street, located south of Center Street, and part of Caldwell Street, between Gwendolyn and George streets.
These areas are currently unpaved following a project to replace sanitary sewer lines on Gwendolyn and West Center streets, which causes dust in that area.
In other business, village administrator Randy Diller reported on plans for construction of a second cell phone in the village.
Diller said he was recently notified that construction of a tower owned by Cingular Wireless is planned on the property of Jim Rammel, located at 367 Ashcraft Road, north of the village.
“We could have two towers (near the village) by the end of the year,” Diller told council members.
Another tower is slated to be constructed soon by Nextel on property owned by Dan Timmerman, 1020 Sharpsburg Road.
Also Monday, council members:
•Accepted a resolution to establish a fund for the $35,000 the village received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and $5,800 from the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.
These funds reimbursed the village for clean-up expenses for debris removal and costs to replace a fence and repair a light in Fort Site Park that were damaged by the January ice storm and additional projected clean-up expenses that will be incurred by the village up until Aug. 16.
•Voted to cancel the Monday, July 4 meeting and meet on Monday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m. (Ohio time). The council’s next meeting is Monday, June 20.
•Heard Diller report that 60 percent of the income surveys were turned in by village residents. A total of 51 percent or 240 surveys were needed to make the survey valid.
Students hired by the village from the Business Enterprise Center at Wright State University-Lake Campus in Celina, Ohio conducted a door-to-door income survey in late April. The information collected by the students was sent to the Mercer County Community Development Department for tabulation.
This information will be used by the village in seeking state and federal grants to fund combined sewer system projects.[[In-content Ad]]
