FORT RECOVERY — The Indians would have liked to give their home fans a victory in their final game of the season. But with the Marion Local Flyers visiting Barrenbrugge, such a finish was not in the cards.
Fort Recovery gave up seven first-half touchdowns to the eighth-ranked team in Division VI as they it ended the season with a 47-7 defeat.
Three different Marion Local players tossed touchdown passes in a 27-point second quarter with A.J. Homan connecting with Dylan Thobe on the first to make the score 26-0. Ryan Mescher added a 66-yard score to Niles Keller, and Adam Bertke connected with Greg Schwieterman on a 20-yard scoring pass with 52 seconds left in the opening half.
In addition to the varied passing attack, the Flyers (8-2, 6-2
Midwest Athletic Conference) out-gained Fort Recovery 259-80 on the ground, with Keller racking up 113 yards and two TDs on just eight carries. He was responsible for the first two scores of the game on runs of 46 and 20 yards.
Mescher added a 5-yard scoring run, and Alex Post broke away for a 60-yard TD in the second quarter. The Flyers were aided by a couple of FRHS turnovers that allowed them to scored twice in the span of less than two minutes in the opening quarter and three times in the final 4:31 of the second.
The lone points for Fort Recovery, which opened with back-to-back wins before going 0-8 in the MAC, came on a long drive to start the second half. The Indians held the ball for more than 10 minutes, putting together a 16-play drive before Aaron Vagedes (13 carries, 44 yards) surged over the goal line from 1-yard out.
Jason Pottkotter finished 8-of-17 for 89 yards through the air for Indians. Derek Gaerke caught two passes for 34 yards, and Ryan Schoen also had a pair of receptions.[[In-content Ad]]
