Fort drops game to Flyers, 41-40
FRHS boys basketball
MARIA STEIN — After losing a close game in overtime last Friday, the Fort Recovery Indians got closer this weekend, but still came up one point short, dropping a 41-40 contest with Marion Local.
The Flyers’ Russel Moelle turned a 40-39 Fort Recovery lead into a victory for the home team when he drained two free throws with only four seconds on the clock. The Indians had one last heave with only seconds remaining, but the ball fell short and Fort Recovery watched another game barely slip away.
Fort Recovery’s John Bihn kept his team in the game late, registering six points and six rebounds in the games final three minutes. Bihn hit a field goal with 1:25 left in the game to put the Indians up by four, but the Flyers’ Cory Luebke responded with a three-pointer to cut the margin back down to one.
Bihn finished the night with 12 points on 6-for-11 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead his team. Dusty Tobe was second on the team with 11 points and six boards.
With 33 seconds left, Bihn made a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to three. On the next trip down the floor, Luebke missed a three-point attempt, and the Indians’ C.J. Tobe was fouled. Tobe missed his free throw and Marion Local took advantage of its last chance.
Adam Kremer hit a jumper for the Flyers with seven seconds left to cut the lead to one, and three seconds later Bihn was whistled for a foul that gave the Moelle two foul shots with only four ticks left on the clock. Moelle drained both attempts, sending the Indians home with another close loss.
Moeller shot 5-for-14, registering 14 points and Luebke finished with 13 points on his 5-for-16 shooting.
