Fort drops ice-cold shooting game (01/29/05)

DELPHOS, Ohio — It wasn’t just cold outside. It was frigid in the gym for during the first half Friday night.

Both Fort Recovery and Delphos St. Johns shot badly in the opening quarters, but the Blue Jays bounced back in the second half and the Indians didn’t.

The result: A 55-39 loss for Fort Recovery on the road.

Both teams hit just 26.9 percent of their attempts from the field in the first half. St. Johns fared slightly better from 3-point range, hitting 4 of 12.

The score at the end of the first quarter was an abysmal 9-7, with St. Johns leading. It was 21-18 at the half.

But St. Johns used its lockerroom time to re-group and came back to outscore the Indians 17-9 in the third period and 17-12 in the fourth.

The Indians improved their shooting from the field to 39.1 percent in the second half, but hit just 3 of 7 free throws in the half.

Sean Kahlig led the Indians with 13 points, hitting 5 of 10 form the field and going 3 for 4 at the foul line.

Dusty Tobe was the second-highest scorer with 8 points, but he couldn’t find his game, hitting just 3 of 13 shots from the field. Greg Faller had 6 points for the Indians but hit just 3 of 10 from the field. Tyler Wuebker scored 5 point, hitting 2 of 3 from the field and going 1 for 2 at the foul line.

Chad Reynolds led the Blue Jays with 17 points, while Matt Webb had 13 and Derek Webb contributed 11.

In the JV contest, it was St. Johns on top 58-25. Tony Diller was the only Indian in double digits with 11 points.[[In-content Ad]]
