COLDWATER, Ohio — It’s been a 180 for the Indians. And that, is a good thing.

Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team won its third straight game Thursday with a 52-41 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers.

The 2003-04 Tribe teamed struggled to a 1-4 start, but won 12 of its final 13 regular-season games and finished 15-7. This year’s team is now 4-1, and 2-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

The Indians used a hot shooting first half to grab control of the game, going 13-of-23 from the field (57 percent). Coldwater shot just 26 percent in the opening half as it fell behind 31-21.

Post players Krystal Rammel and Tiff Gaerke led the high-percentage shooting as they finished with 14 and 12 points respectively. They each had one blocked shot.

Gaerke had a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds. She also came up with three steals.

Rammel, who scored in double figures for the fourth straight contest, was 4-of-4 from the foul line. She added seven rebounds as Fort Recovery took a 32-26 advantage on the glass.

Vicki Roessner added eight points, five rebounds and three assists. Kelsie Will notched five assists, and Holly Stein grabbed three steals.

Kendra Robbins was the lone Cavalier to reach double figures as she went 6-of-12 from the field and finished with 13 points. She also had team highs of seven rebounds and three blocks.

Renee Hemmelgarn added eight points, and Leah Wenning had six rebounds.

Big 1st, 4th carry JV

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity girls basketball team allowed Coldwater just two points in the first and fourth quarters as it rolled to a 55-21 victory.

The Indians (3-2) took control quickly, outscoring Coldwater 12-2 in the first quarter. They built a 28-9 lead at the half, and pulled away with a 15-2 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Val Fortkamp and Sam Staugler were each outstanding from the field for the Tribe. Staugler went 7-of-9 (78 percent) to score 15 points, and Fortkamp went 7-of-11 (64 percent), including 2-of-2 from 3-point range, for 16 points.

Staugler added six rebounds and four steals, and Fortkamp had five assists and five steals. Jill Pottkotter notched seven rebounds, and Lauren Wenning dished out six assists.

Alison Wenning had seven points to pace Coldwater, and Abby Griesdorn added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
