Fort falls short (10/10/2008)

FRHS volleyball

NEW BREMEN - They didn't come away with a victory, but the Indians played well Thursday on the sectional court.

Fort Recovery High School's volleyball team nearly pulled off an upset, taking the Division IV No. 5 New Bremen Cardinals to five games before falling 25-16, 24-26, 25-19, 23-25, 15-9.

The Tribe will return to New Bremen Tuesday for sectional semifinal action against New Knoxville at 6 p.m. It defeated the Rangers 25-16, 18-25, 25-17, 26-24 during the regular season.

Nicole Pottkotter again paced Fort Recovery (10-12, 2-7 Midwest Athletic Conference) in the loss to the Cardinals (16-3, 8-1 MAC). She had team highs for 26 assists and three blocks, and added 18 digs, six points and five kills.

Emily May finished with 21 digs and 11 points, and Joanna Snyder had 18 digs and 10 points. Holly Brunswick totaled 10 kills and three blocks, Kinsey Wenning had 14 kills and Anne Koesters added 10 kills.

Junior varsity

Fort Recovery dropped its final match of the season 25-22, 23-25, 25-20 to the Cardinals. It finished 10-10 overall and 3-6 in the MAC.

Carly Staugler capped the 2008 campaign with 18 assists, seven digs and six points. Lorraine Shier added nine kills and seven digs, and Lauren Staugler had seven points and five kills.

Kendra Brunswick totaled 10 digs, Sarah Knapke had seven digs and Holly Thien finished with six points.

Seventh grade

The Minster Wildcats knocked the Indians out in the first round of the MAC tournament, 25-4, 25-21.

Sierra Pugh scored six points for Fort Recovery (0-16), and Becky Brockman had three points. Lexie Schmitz chipped in two blocks and a kill, and Morgan Dues and Hannah Kaup each added one point.[[In-content Ad]]
