Fort FFA places well

Taking Note

The Fort Recovery FFA Chapter recently competed in state competition in Columbus, Ohio.

The farm business management team received 13th place.

Team members were Beth Fortkamp, Beth Lennartz, Jennifer Link, Alicia Schmackers, Holly Vogel, Kelsie Will, Mary Will and Rachel Will.

The grain merchandising team received 7th place. Team members were Craig Link, Shelly Schoenlein, Eric Weitzel and Dave Willmann. Eric also placed 6th in individual competition and Craig placed 14th.

The agricultural engineering team received 9th placed. Team members were Greg Brackman, Dale Brunswick, Kyle Fortkamp, Jason Grube, Kurt Kremer, Craig Link, Jason Post, Scott Pottkotter, Tyler Rauh and Lee Stammen.

The cooperative team received 16th place. Team members were Dale Brunswick, Jake Knapke, Jackie Lennartz, Scott Pottkotter, Shelly Schoenlein, Eric Weitzel and Dave Willmann.

RECEIVES DEGREE

Kerri J. McClung, daughter of Kit and Dana McClung, Portland, received her bachelor of science degree in Education from Bowling Green State University in graduation ceremonies on May 8.

Julie Pickett, daughter of Beth and James Pickett, Portland, received her bachelor of arts degree from Earlham College during commencement ceremonies on May 8. She completed two majors, one in mathematics and one in computer science.

JOINS HONOR SOCIETY

Linda Wellman, Bryant, was recently elected to membership in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing through Beta Rho Chapter at Ball State University. She is a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in nursing.

RECEIVES SCHOLARSHIP

Beth Muhlenkamp, daughter of Ed and Barb Muhlenkamp, Portland, recently received the Warren E. Schaller Scholarship at Ball State University. She is a junior majoring in health science and minoring in public health and interpersonal relations.

AUDITIONS HELD

Five area piano instructors sponsored their students in the annual National Guild of Piano Teachers’ auditions on May 11 to May 13 at Asbury United Methodist Church in Portland.

KIDS CAMP

State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice will hold its fourth annual children’s bereavement camp on Friday, July 30 through Sunday, August 1. The camp is called Camp BEARable and will be held at the Spiritual Center of Maria Stein.

The camp gives kids who have lost someone they love the chance to meet others in their age group who have lost someone they love. It is a mixture of fun, games, and conversations about grief loss issues.

Each child will be paired with a buddy who has gone through special training.

State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice honored their volunteers with a “Volunteer Appreciation Day” in April at St. Louis Catholic Church in North Star, Ohio.

Volunteers enjoyed a day of pampering, including manicures, pedicures, head and neck massages, facials, shoe shines and hair stylings.

There were also refreshments and a special gift for volunteers.

MINNETRISTA CENTER

The Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie will be offering the following programs:

A free behind the scenes tour of the Minnetrista Heritage Collection on Sunday. June 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. Registration deadline is Sunday, June 6.

Fly fishing for families is on Saturday, June 19 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Ken Langell from the Royal River Fly Fishing Shop will give fly casting demonstrations and show how to tie knots. Cost is $5. Registration deadline is Saturday, June, 12.
