Fort finishes third at Treaty City (09/04/07)
FRHS volleyball
GREENVILLE, Ohio - Third place belonged to the Indians, again.
Just like at the season-opening Celina Rotary Invitational, Fort Recovery High School's girls cross country team finished third Saturday. This time their effort was in the midst of a massive 20-team field at the Treaty City Invitational, finishing behind only Versailles (32 points), which placed fourth in the state in 2006, and Coldwater (95).
The Indians scored 138 points, putting them 20 ahead of fourth-place Ansonia.
Fort Recovery's boys team did not have enough runners for a team score. Russia won the boys competition with 73 points while Minster was second at 100.
Mindy Vogel and Tina Roessner set the tone for the Tribe, giving the team a pair of top-10 finishes again.
Vogel, a senior, bounced back from a difficult opening day, slicing her time by more than two minutes to finish fifth in 20-minutes, 14.41 seconds. Roessner was barely a second behind Versailles' Kristen Schulte to take 10th place at 20:56.98.
Each of Fort Recovery's other three scoring runners was much faster than at Celina.
Sam Bihn knocked more than a minute off her time to take 38th in 22:41.39 in the Treaty City Race. Alexis Sutter was 55 seconds faster as she placed 45th in 22:50.16, and Abby Huelskamp improved her time by 1:28 as she took 49th at 22:58.2.
Ryan Heitkamp turned in the top result for the Indian boys, who had only four runners in competition Saturday. He was 56th in 19 minutes flat, improving upon his Celina time by 54 seconds.
Caleb Heitkamp took 113th in 20:09, Alan Vogel was 116th in 20:15 and Zach Guggenbiller finished 201st in 24:26.
