Ditch project to receive additional $500

FORT RECOVERY — This community was awarded a little something extra through a grant from Mercer County.
At a town council meeting held June 27, village council members accepted a $12,000 Community Development Block Grant. They learned at their meeting Monday an extra $500 was added to the original amount that will help fund the Buck Ditch storm sewer project.
Village officials had originally requested $25,000 in federal funding to help pay for the $95,000 project. Work on Buck Ditch, which runs between VanTrees Park and the Wabash River, is scheduled to begin late this year or early in 2006, according to village administrator Randy Diller.
This grant comes from the $105,000 received in federal funds by Mercer County, that was then dispensed through grants by Mercer County Commissioners.
After reviewing 14 grant applications, the commissioners were able to fund five projects, including the Buck Ditch project.
In other business Monday, Diller reported that the Gwendolyn Street improvement project is scheduled to begin Monday. Jutte Excavating will be paving from Caldwell to Milligan streets, and one block of West Center Street. The project is expected to be completed in three to four weeks.
Also Monday, the council:
•Voted to spend $395 on a portable breathalyzer for the Fort Recovery Police Department.
•Announced the completion of street overlays on Caldwell and South Wayne streets.
•Completed paperwork for the purchase of five acres in the village industrial park by A-1 Ag Services.[[In-content Ad]]
