Fort grad sets ONU up for victory

Nicole Pottkotter made her fourth start of the season and delivered again for the Ohio Northern University volleyball team.
The 2010 Fort Recovery High School graduate racked up 36 assists Saturday in leading the NCAA Division III No. 22 Polar Bears to a 25-16, 25-16, 25-10 victory over Ohio Northern.
Pottkotter, who has averaged 37 assists per start this season, also had four digs and a block for ONU. She also played two games for the Polar Bears (15-10) in Tuesday’s three-game win over Wilmington, totaling 13 assists, one block, one dig and one ace.
For the season the freshman is averaging 7.9 assists per game, which is the fourth-highest in the Ohio Athletic Conference. She also has 40 digs, 12 kills, 12 blocks and three aces.
Allison Beitler
South Adams – 2010
Turned in the top time for the Goshen College women’s cross country team Saturday as it finished fifth at the nine-team Spartan Invitational hosted by Manchester.
Beitler was the fastest runner on the Maple Leafs’ squad by more than a minute in the 6K race. She finished eighth overall in 24 minutes, 4.5 seconds.
Tiff Gaerke
Fort Recovery – 2007
Helped the University of Dayton volleyball team to a 25-27, 25-23, 25-27, 26-24, 15-13 victory Friday over Xavier.
Gaerke played in one game, finishing with one assist for the NCAA Division I No. 18 Flyers. Dayton is 16-3 overall and undefeated at 7-0 in the Atlantic 10.[[In-content Ad]]
