Fort grads lead ONU, Findlay

Twenty-three was the magic number for a pair of former Indians.
Joanna Snyder, a 2009 Fort Recovery High School graduate, racked up 23 points Friday night as she powered the Ohio Northern University women’s basketball team past Lake Forest, 67-48. Greg Kahlig (FRHS – 2010) followed her lead as he also scored 23 points to lead the NCAA Division II No. 8 University of Findlay men’s basketball team to a 74-65 triumph over Cedarville.
Snyder reached her career high as she shot 10-of-19 (.526) from the field. She also grabbed four rebounds and a steal.
The senior also had 12 points Saturday as the Polar Bears (1-1) fell 63-60 to Washington (Mo.).
Kahlig, a junior who is Fort Recovery’s all-time leading scorer, went 7-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 from the line for his 23 points. He added six rebounds and one assist for the Oilers (1-1).
Cori Vormohr
Jay County - 2009
Picked up a pair of third-place finishes Friday and Saturday to help power the Ball State University women’s swim team to victory as it hosted the four-team Doug Coers Invitational.
Vormohr was part of a dominant effort in the breaststroke as the Cardinals swept the top five spots in the 200-yard race and the top four in the 100. She was third in both events, posting times of 1 minute, 8.49 seconds in the 100 breaststroke and 2:27.52 in the 200 breaststroke.
The senior also placed fourth in the 50 freestyle in 24.98.
Neal Fennig
Jay County – 2011
Also competed for Ball State in the Doug Coers Invitational as the men’s team finished second behind Grand Valley State.
Fennig turned in his top effort in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing eighth in 50.87 seconds. He was ninth in the 200 freestyle in 1 minutes, 51.88 seconds, and 11th with a time of 5:07.83 in the 500 freestyle.
Hannah Moore
South Adams – 2012
Helped the Huntington University women’s cross country team to a 20th-place finish out of 32 teams competing at Saturday’s National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Cross Country Championships at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.
Moore closed out her freshman season with a time of 20 minutes, 18 seconds in the 5K race.
She was the No. 5 runner for the Foresters and finished 198th out of 320 overall.
Pazia Speed

Shared the team-high in assists Friday as the Huntington University women’s basketball team clobbered the host Mountaineers 80-39 in the opening round of the Berea College Pepsi Classic.
Speed dished out three assists while scoring nine points as the Foresters (5-1) cruised to the win. She also had three rebounds and three steals.
The junior totaled 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal as Huntington dropped the tournament championship game 61-54 to Robert Morris (Ill.) on Saturday.
Eme Miller

Competed for the Defiance College women’s swim team Saturday and Sunday as the Yellow Jackets finished last out of six teams at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
Miller’s top individual effort came as she posted a time of 19 minutes, 56.16 seconds for sixth place in the 1,650-yard freestyle. She was 10th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:46.74, 11th in the 200 freestyle in 2:09.51 and 13th in the 500 freestyle in 5:47.23.
The freshman also teamed with Jacqueline Loock, Emilee Boleyn and Brittany Pease for fifth with a time of 4:38.81 in the 400 medley relay.
Miller was the runner-up in the 400 freestyle at 5:09.74 on Friday as Defiance split with Hiram and Chatham. She posted a time of 2:25.62 for third in the 200 freestyle and teamed with Savannah Marquez, Boleyn and Loock for a winning tiem of 2:01.68 in the 200 freestyle relay.
Erin Hunt

Recorded her first points of the season Saturday in the Bethel College women’s basketball team’s 65-39 victory over Berea.
Hunt connected on all of her four free-throw attempts to finish with four points. She also grabbed one rebound in eight minutes of action.
Lindsey Wellman
Jay County – 2010
Played for the Ball State University women’s basketball team Saturday as it fell 70-45 to Marshall.
Wellman finished with one steal in eight minutes of action. She also played four minutes Monday for the Cardinals (1-3), who topped IPFW 53-46.
Kylie Kahlig

Started Saturday in the University of Northwestern Ohio women’s basketball team’s 76-63 loss to Cornerstone.
Kahlig went 2-for-2 at the foul line and finished with two points. She also had one rebound and one steal in 21 minutes.

Got in the game for the University of Northwestern Ohio men’s basketball team in Saturday’s 74-60 loss to Cornerstone.
