Fort hires teachers, coach (5/14/03)

Patch will head varsity boys basketball program

FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery School board approved the hiring of four new elementary school teachers and a boys head basketball coach at its meeting Tuesday.

The new employees were hired to fill positions vacated by retirements at the elementary school. The new teachers are Kimberly Pohlman, Aaron Vaughn, Jennifer Grieshop and Cynthia Moon.

In addition to the new instructors, the board voted to hire Brian Patch, a Jay County High School graduate, as the new boys head basketball coach. The contracts of its athletic director and eight other coaches also were renewed by the board Tuesday.

The board also voted unanimously to purchase property owned by the Dorothy Bozarth estate, just east of the high school. The property, located at 417 Fremont St., is currently occupied by a three-story home and was purchased at its appraised value of $60,000. The board plans to look into possibly moving the home before having it razed.

Fort Recovery Supt. Pat Niekamp said the property would be used for “future needs.”

In other action Tuesday, the school board unanimously:

•Approved the monthly financial reports for April of 2003.

•Approved a motion to contract with the Local Government Services Division of the Auditor of State Office to compile the general purpose financial statements of the Fort Recovery Local School District as of June 30, 2003. This will be in accordance with the Statements on Standards for Accounting and Review Services issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The board voted that the cost of this assistance will not exceed $9,000 in the fiscal year 2003 and will be billed at $35 per hour.

•Approved the transfer of $77,715.14 from the general fund into the termination benefits fund. This figure that must be reported to worker’s compensation.

•Recognized and thanked the Dayton Power and Light Foundation for its general donation of $20,000 to support Fort Recovery Local Schools.

•Thanked and recognized Wal-Mart of Celina for its donation of $500 to be used on the district’s landscaping needs.

•Recognized and thanked the PTO for its donation of $6,600 to elementary/middle school programs. The money has not been allocated to any specific program at this time.

•Granted Niekamp permission to hire casual labor for summer work in the district. This hiring will mainly consist of students hired for work on the school’s property during the summer.

•Approved a motion to accept all seniors, as presented on a list to board members, for participation in commencement exercises and to receive diplomas upon completion of all requirements and proper certification.

•Established the summer office hours for the district at 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (Ohio time), which will run from June 2 until sometime in early August.

•Set the preschool tuition fees for the 2003-2004 school year at: $50/month, for students in the district, two days a week, and alternating Fridays; $70/month, for students in the district, four days a week; $70/month, for students out of district for two days a week, alternating Fridays; $90/month, for students out of district for four days a week; $20/month, reduced tuition for poverty level families.

•Amended the contract of part-time elementary teacher Lori Anderson from part-time to full-time elementary teacher, effective beginning the 2003-2004 school year.

•Hired the following junior high coaches for the 2003-2004 school year: Michelle Knapke, head volleyball coach; and Beth Stephen, assistant volleyball coach.

•Hired the following coaches for high school sports for the 2003-2004 school year: Jacquelyn Kaup, head volleyball coach; Diana Rammel, reserve volleyball coach; Kristina Thobe, freshman volleyball coach; Mark Fenik, head football coach; David Blockberger and Zebulon Sutton, assistant football coach; Mark Fenik, weight room supervisor; and Robert Perkeybile, girls head golf coach.

•Voted to continue the following supplemental contracts for extra duties for the 2003-2004 school year: Daniel Ruckman, instructional music programs, color guard instructor and summer band; Tracy Hein-Evers, show choir director; Jill Ranly, football cheerleader advisor; Karen Ranly, basketball cheerleader advisor; Robyn Armstrong, math-science club advisor; Angelika Schade Hein, German Club advisor and Future Teachers Association; Beverly Monroe, art club advisor; Margie Dilworth, SADD Advisor; Robert Perkeybile, scholastic bowl; Janice Osterloh, National Honor Society; Curtis Hamrick, annual advisor, newspaper advisor and Future Business Leaders of America; Lisa Ontrop, high school student council advisor; Kathleen Jutte, middle school student council advisor, eighth grade class advisor and middle school yearbook advisor; Cheryl Perkeybile, freshman class advisor; Lisa Ontrop, sophomore class advisor; Barb Sautbine, junior class advisor; Robert Perkeybile, senior class advisor; Mark Rutledge, spring and fall registration; Elaine Romer, activities manager; Jayne Evans, elementary vocal music programs; Diane Burke, kindergarten grade level chair; Kari Eilerman, first grade chair; Connie VanSkyock, second grade chair; Carol Knapke, third grade chair; Lucy Staugler, fourth grade chair; Jill Walter, fifth grade chair; Michelle Vaughn, elementary scheduling; David Kaiser, elementary/middle school guidance; Brenda Kaup, elementary student council; Jeffery Brown and Nancy Knapke, core committee.[[In-content Ad]]
