Fort mayor makes apointments (1/6/03)
Broerman takes first action
FORT RECOVERY — The village’s new mayor, Roger Broerman, made several board appointments at Monday night’s village council meeting.
Richard Mohler was appointed to the cemetery board for a one-year term; Dean Zehringer was named to serve on the income tax review board, which is a three-year term; the park board appointment — which is a five-year term — went to Harold Fiely; Cy Muhlenkamp was appointed to a five-year zoning board term; and Scott Zehringer was appointed to the zoning board for three years. Ken Romer, Tom Kaup and Diana Grile will all serve three years on the design review board, and Broerman will serve on the planning board until the end of his mayoral term.
Council members selected Rod Thobe as their president and representative to the Southwest Mercer Fire District.
In other news, the council has one open seat which no one campaigned for after it was vacated by Broerman when he ran for mayor. Village administrator Randy Diller said several people have expressed an interest in taking the position. Those people will be interviewed on an individual basis before the council’s next meeting on Jan. 20 to determine who will fill the seat for the next four years.
All applicants must have lived in town for one year and currently reside in the village, which all interested parties do, Diller said.
Also Monday, village tax administrator Kathryn Franke met with the council in an executive session to receive permission to bring litigation against residents who owe back income taxes. The council agreed to allow the pursuit of the money owed.
Franke also reported that there was an increase of 3.25 percent in village income taxes in 2003. Total income tax revenue for the year was $392,482 compared to $380,151 in 2002.
Other business conducted at the meeting included the approval of legislation for temporary appropriations made in anticipation of bills due in April.
Diller also reported Monday that the Gwendolyn Street storm sewer reconstruction project should begin sometime in February depending on the availability of the contractor — which has yet to be chosen — and the weather conditions. The portion of the street to be worked on is between Caldwell and Center streets.[[In-content Ad]]
